The
trolleybus is dressing up
On 21 August 2010, the Barnim Bus Company (BBG),
partner in the 2nd call Central Europe project "TROLLEY -
Promoting Electric Public Transport", is celebrating "70
years of trolleybuses in Eberswalde". In this context, BBG
is looking for enthusiasts and advocates of the cleanest public
transport mode: the electric trolleybus. Cities, companies, associations
or institutions have the opportunity to commit themselves to the
trolleybus concept by providing T-shirts with their institution's
logo. All T-shirts will then be fixed on a trolleybus positioned
on the market place in Eberswalde, Germany, on 21 August, resulting
in a colourful mosaic promoting trolleybuses in Central Europe.
If you wish to commit yourself to the trolleybus concept, contact
Ms. Mandy Kutzner (unterwegs [at] bbg-eberswalde.de or +49-3334-52233).
TROLLEY
Launch Event
Promoting electric public transport
On July 1, 2010, Wojciech Szczurek, the Lord Mayor of the City
of Gdynia, welcomed high level experts to the launch event of
the TROLLEY project. Nine partners from Salzburg, Brno, Eberswalde,
Gdansk, Gdynia, Leipzig, Parma and Szeged, representing urban
transport stakeholders of Central Europe, are cooperating in the
TROLLEY project. They are convinced that electricity-based public
transport is the cleanest and most efficient urban mobility solution
today, and that trolleybuses constitute the best ready-to-use
technology to face major mobility challenges in Central Europe.
Based on the rich experience of these partners, TROLLEY seeks
to unlock the vast potential of trolleybuses to transform transport
systems from fossil mobility towards electromobility.
The launch event offered a great opportunity for transnational
exchange and networking on electric public transport solutions.
It was enriched with the presence of high rank officials on the
local, national and European level. A festive moment was the official
signing of the "Joint Trolleybus Declaration", a written
commitment of European public transport protagonists to promote
trolleybuses in Central Europe

ELTISplus
Europes number one webportal on urban transport and
mobility continues
The contract for the new ELTISplus project was signed
in May 2010 and the partners kicked off the three-year project
on 14 June 2010. Rupprecht Consult has a leading role in pushing
the European agenda for sustainable urban mobility plans ahead.
For more than 10 years, the ELTIS webportal has provided information
and services to urban transport professionals in Europe. An ever
expanding good practice database in multiple languages is the
foundation of the portal. ELTISplus will add new services and
functions to boost the knowledge base and to intensify the exchange
among stakeholders in urban transport.
Assessing European experiences of sustainable urban mobility
plans and discussing planning frameworks is a central part of
ELTISplus and responds directly to the European Commissions
Urban Mobility Action Plan. The project is funded through the
Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation.

NICHES+:
A kangaroo visits Burgos
Babu, the kangaroo mascot of the Freiburg public
transport operator VAG, joined the NICHES+ expert team that visited
the City of Burgos on 23 March 2010 to share good practice on
travel training for children in public transport. Ute Vasen from
VAG Freiburg and Florian Paul from the Munich public transport
operator MVG have extensive experience with the travel training
schemes in their cities. They discussed possible ways of transferring
this experience to the NICHES+ Champion City of Burgos with a
local stakeholder team. Rupprecht Consult supports and moderates
the knowledge exchange on the topic as NICHES+ partner.
While Babu mainly hang out in Tapas bars, the rest of the team
was working hard on defining the possible scope and content of
a travel training scheme for children in public transport that
can realistically be implemented in Burgos in the coming months.

LINK
Final Conference: Positive messages for passenger intermodality
in Europe
The further integration of transport modes to strengthen
innovation and efficiency in passenger transport was the key issue
at the LINK Final Conference, which took place on 30 March 2010
at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels. After three years
of intense work with a network of more than 150 European experts,
the European LINK Forum on intermodal passenger travel presented
practical ways to enhance passenger intermodality in Europe. A
high level round table discussed the role of passenger intermodality
in future European Transport policy. It became clear that the
further integration of transport modes will be an important topic
in the coming Transport White Paper of the European Commission.
The 19 recommendations and strategies to enhance passenger intermodality
in Europe that were developed by the LINK Working Groups have
been perceived as highly valuable input to the further discussion
and actions on the European level. The "EU-Spirit" cross-border
and Internet-based travel information service for customers of
public transport (www.eu-spirit.com)
received the LINK Award as outstanding achievement in Passenger
Intermodality.
The Conference presentations and the recommendations document
have been made available on the LINK website: www.linkforum.eu
